Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
